Sarah Elson is a contemporary visual artist and metalsmith. The recipient of the City of Joondalup 2019 Inside-Out Billboard commission, Sarah is also a Samstag Scholar, and a member of Art Collective WA amongst other accolades. Sarah has exhibited nationally and internationally and taught jewellery design for over 20 years at Curtin University.

Explore the potential of this immediate casting technique using two part moulds with inclusions. Press or carve into the bone of the deceased cephalopod and explore it’s magnificent properties of having both a soft carve-able interior whilst also being heat resistant.

Recycle old silver jewellery into your one-off moulds and experiment with adding materials that the silver can encase, such as semi-precious stones.

Some previous experience is desirable but not necessary. Bring old silver jewellery to melt down and reuse or buy silver on the day.

Limited to 8 participants only. Ticket price includes morning and afternoon tea. BYO lunch.

The City of Joondalup presents this workshop in partnership with Maker&Smith to complement the Jewellers & Metalsmiths Group of Australia, WA (JMGA WA) open exhibition ‘ADORN’ at the Joondalup Art Gallery (JAG). Maker&Smith present conversations, masterclasses and films to stimulate the contemporary craft & makers community in Western Australia.
